This hotel was comfortable however the room was very warm and stuffy. It had a weird smell to the room when we first walked in. The air condition wasn't on, and once it was turned on the room wasn't as stuffy. The fridge wasn't on and we had food to place in it but had to turn it on first. The first time I stayed at this hospital the hotel and room was better and the room was more comfortable and not as stuffy. It didn't have a smell at all.

Older hotel (1965) but kept in fairly good condition. Compared to the other Hilo hotels along Banyan Drive this is by far the best. Some of the other looked down right scary. But don't expect anything extra special and you won't be disappointed. It was clean, safe and a good location for exploring the Volcanoes National Park and other areas.

Staff was helpful and friendly. The laundry room was small, not enough machines. I had to go elsewhere due to not being able to command a washer/dryer, trying for a period of time of four hours to do so. The restaurant was very overpriced. Parking was good and convenient. The room was old, dull and stuffy.

Very nice view from oceanside. Great location for seeing the east side of Hawaii. But, the waterfalls are only a trickle in August. Good if you are spending a lot of time in the local area or at Volcanoes National Park. For a short visit consider the drive from the west side as the hotels are much nicer. The hotel itself is well located in Hilo. The surrounding parks and gardens are amazing. But this is not a first class hotel, it's age is showing. However, it is clean and the seafood buffet is fantastic. We did not eat any other meals at the hotel. The local places were varied and very interesting.

I would remind anyone staying in Hilo that there not many options and this is one of the best options. having said that don't expect too much. I found this hotel to be very good compared to other hotels in Hilo, specially if you are on budgeted trip. The room was big, bathroom was clean, beds comfortable. Draw back, if you don't eat dinner at 9 you will go hungry unless you want to go outside the hotel. There is a place near by I think called Ken's pancake house, it's reasonably priced and open all night. Everything else get closed by 9. If you have less time and want to maximize your time in Big Island. I would suggest that you stay at Hilo and in Hilo Castle. Everything is close by.

There aren't alot of choices in Hilo so here's your only good option. The hotel is fine but don't expect a 5 star experience. The beds were fine and the room was clean. It's a good value and I would definitely stay there again.

I did not like this hotel. It was old, congested, and parking was unavailable when we checked in. The shower had mildew and fungus, there was no vent. The TV was small and old. The star level was all wrong and should be lowered along with the asking price.

View was beautiful and staff was very accomodating. Upon our arrival the first night they had made no rooms available with two beds. They gave us a room with a king size bed. We were two senior citizen women and they promised us another room first thing in the morning so moved us as promised to a room with two double beds. We really appreciated the move to the new room. Everyone was very pleasant and maid service was excellent. Dining room was a little spendy so ate at other restaurants. Service was poor in the restaurant. We went in first night and were shown to a table and 30 minutes later we had not even received a menu. Got up and walked out due to poor service. Otherwise, everything was excellent.

We only stayed here for a couple days, but it was a nice place. Pretty close to Volcano National Park (which is why we went to the big Island). The hotel wasn't the best place in the world, but it was clean with an old town charm and the room was pretty big overlooking the water. I'd stay here again for sure especially for the price.

Overall we were very pleased with this hotel. The beds were superior - extremely comfortable. The only problem was that the smell from the buffet had a strong fishy smell; thus we did not eat there. The staff was very efficient and friendly, and the location was excellent. We would definitely stay there again.

The Castle Hilo Hawaiian Hotel is located 10 minutes from the airport on the shoreline of Hilo Bay, a very beautiful spot. The hotel staff was very gracious and accommodating throughout our short visit, they made us feel very welcomed. The room was very clean, spacious and comfortable with a balcony so we could enjoy the scenery and fresh air. The restaurant offered a great Hawaiian Seafood Buffet dinner that was popular with guests and local residents as well. The hotel also has ample free parking for guests. The only recommendation we made was to fix the tub drainage, very slow. Other than that, we will definitely stay there again!

In general this is a nice place to stay. The view from the room is great and the size of the room is good. Dinning at the restaurant was very slow and the food was just ok.

The hotel was really in a beautiful area with gorgeous views and the grounds are well kept. The hotel is kept clean and the rooms are nice. The staff however, seems unfriendly and gives only yes/no answers to needs. The funny thing is we didn't have any complaints and the treatment was still kind of stiff and unfriendly. We did not get the impression that they wanted us there.

We enjoyed our stay - the only drawback was the room smelled musty when we walked in - and the musty smell transferred on to our stored clothing. Other than that everything was very nice. Great location - great views - the gounds were pleasant to walk around. Would go again, just remember to bring lots of air santitizer ;-)

Beautiful grounds - rooms could use more comfortable beds: king or queen not 3/4 beds. Locks should have magnetic keys. Internet in the lobby should be free for hotel guests. Local calls should be free.

The Castle Hilo Hawaiian is in an excellent location if you're doing business in Hilo, close to the airport, state offices, and downtown. Hilo is not a fancy place and this hotel is not a fancy hotel. Very friendly and courteous staff, warm atmosphere but everything is very plain and simple - few amenities. Rooms are neat and clean but again, very plain. Ask for an oceanview room if available. The view of Hilo Bay, especially on a sunny day, is gorgeous.

Convenient access to airport, downtown Hilo, mall and fast food locations, park and local beaches, and to Volcanoes National Park. Dinner buffet was excellent. Parking access was adequate and security-controlled. Room amenities were not outstanding, but were good value for price.
