We had three rooms at the Ambassador East for a Chicago wedding. Two of the rooms were very clean and comfortable. The third room had a closet which had clearly been a kennel for a dog and there were ants in the bathroom when we got there. After leaving some snacks in our room (which was clearly our fault, but they did come in the gift basket for the wedding), there were thousands and thousands of ants in our room. There were no king size bed rooms that were handicapped, only two double bed rooms which were more expensive. Because we were next door to her, she was able to shower in our room at some small inconvenience. She would never have been able to get into the very high bathtub in her bathroom. The front office was very accommodating about placing the three rooms next to each other when we arrived. Later we moved closer to downtown to a nicer hotel that was cheaper!!!

The hotel is gem in the Gold Coast. It is surrounded by fabulous shopping, restaurants, bike excursions, the beach, but it is also in a quiet spot. The service is excellent and the dining room is an outstanding event. The hotel was full and the guests were of all ages. Outstanding.

Loved the neighborhood. A bit of a walk to shopping on Michigan Ave., but do-able with good weather. I wish the bathroom was a bit more user-friendly at the sink area.

The Hotel is old and has not been upgraded in many years, if ever. The elevator door stuck, (would not let you out unless you hit the doors) on some floors. I told the concierge and he told me the hotel knew about it, but the hotel was built in 1928. I don't know what else to say.

This hotel is located a few blocks from the Magnificent Mile and Lake Michigan. Everything you could possibly want to do is within walking distance. The hotel is very clean and the staff are very helpful. I would stay here again and again. I was here on business but plan to return on vacation with my family.

This hotel might have been wonderful in its time but not now. The room was very outdated and the carpet was very dirty with no padding.

My husband and I were in town on a weekend business trip to the Gold Coast area of Chicago. The hotel was located in a well kept neighborhood of Chicago only two blocks from Lake Michigan. We were able to walk to great restaurants, shopping, and the beach. The room was large and had a nice view of the Hancock Building. The staff was very friendly, the ammenities nice, and the room quiet and comfortable. We did have some noisy neighbors one evening. The room was very expensive, but considering all the pluses for the location we were satisfied. The Pump Room restaurant was a nice ending for our visit. The valet service is expensive but friendly and quick. I would recommend this hotel to my parents, it's that good.

Ok location only a few blocks north of Rush street shops. Extra fees for second bed and extra fees for more than 2 adults. Self park was not an option and the valet was $41/day plus tips. Not a recommended family place

The Ambassador East is a refurbished older hotel that is extremely comfortable; pretty well located to enjoy downtown Chicago; and close to good resturants. Our room was not too well located, (looked over a air vent - no view), but comfortable, maybe a bit small for 2 people. The Pump House was the in-house resturant. Steeped in Chicago history, with good meals, it was fun for both breakfast and dinner, although a little pricy. Staff was very helpful and the business center was well set up and comfortable.

The location was good and the breakfast buffet was good for the cost. We were unhappy with the view. We could not see anything at except roof tops and walls.

Can not beat the location and it has a lot of charm, however be prepared to spend approx. 41 per night in parking which they do not tell you about and to boot their website had mis-quoted the cost to begin with. Just ask ahead of time so you're not blind sided.

This was my second stay at this hotel. The staff (particularly the very friendly bellmen) take good care of us and make us feel like family. Room service could use some improvement. I ordered twice from room service and the order was difficult to place and came to the room wrong both times. I'm sure whatever the problem was has been solved, however.

From the start, the service was impeccable. Very nice hotel, though be aware dining is expensive. Quiet and secure.

We had stayed here before so we knew what to expect. Location is walking distance to Michigan Avenue shopping and Gold Coast Restaurants and nightlife. We were disappointed that the Pump Room restaurant was closed due to renovations, but at least the bar was open. It also was very noisy when the neighbor would flush a toilet or use the shower -it would wake us up. Otherwise, it was a pleasant stay.

This hotel had some minor cosmetic enhancements that needed to be done (paint, carpet, etc) but overall it was a nice place. The room we stayed in was extremely small, but we were only there to sleep, so it wasn't too inconvenient. The bar was great and the staff was friendly. It was always a cab ride to get to anything though unless you enjoy a long walk; however, the fare was usually under $7.

The hotel is in a great location, the cost is reasonable, the food in the Pump Room is excellent and the rooms are comfortable. The customer service is what needs work. Customer service is slow to respond to requests and often requires multiple phone calls. There is a disparity between the terrible service received from maintenance and customer care and the excellent service received in the Pump Room, at the front desk, the concierge and at the door. The service at the Pump Room, front desk, concierge and the door was excellent. Maintenance and other special requests are like pulling teeth. There is a breakdown in accountability somewhere. Get all service components up to par.

This old property is located in a very nice area, close to the lake and close to Michigan Avenue shopping. The carpet was dirty and worn in the room where I stayed. There is no place in the bathroom to put your stuff since there is just a pedestal sink and no counter space at all. Still had a nice stay there but there could be some improvements.
